Energy Sector Sustainability Table

The Energy Sector Sustainability Table (ESST) was established in 2005 as a multi-stakeholder advisory mechanism. The ESST is Co-chaired by Ian Shugart, Deputy Minister, Environment Canada, and Gerry Protti, Executive Vice-President, Corporate Relations, EnCana Corporation. Membership is a mixture of senior representatives from federal and provincial governments, industry, civil society and academia.

The mandate of the Energy Sector Sustainability Table is to advise the government on how to meet the energy needs of Canadians, to improve the environmental and economic sustainability of energy systems in Canada and to make recommendations on both short-term and long-term sustainable energy objectives.

In doing so, the Table takes into account how best to:

  • protect our natural environment and the health and well-being of Canadians;
  • enhance the sector's overall economic competitiveness; and
  • provide Canadians with a secure, reliable, and affordable efficient and clean energy system

The Table is Co-chaired by:
