Welcome to Sector Sustainability Tables

The Government of Canada has committed to "work with its partners to build sustainable development systematically into decision making." This commitment reflects a national approach to environmental sustainability which seeks to better align environmental and economic signals to address environmental issues such as clean air, clean water, climate change, and biodiversity. In 2005, the Government of Canada established the Sector Sustainability Tables as a way of delivering on this commitment.

The vision underlying the Sector Sustainability Tables initiative is to attain the highest level of environmental quality, as a means to enhance the health and well-being of Canadians, preserve our natural environment, and advance our long-term competitiveness - improving Canadians' quality of life.

To achieve this vision, Sector Sustainability Tables bring together stakeholders from across sectoral value chains to engage in dialogue, deliberate on short- and long-term sustainability issues and develop recommendations for addressing them.
